DECREE BY THE PRESIDENT OF UKRAINE

On the Institution of the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine, Award of the President of Ukraine

In accordance with Item 25, Article 106 of the Constitution of Ukraine

be it further enacted that:

1. The Medal For Military Service to Ukraine, award of the President of Ukraine (hereafter the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine), is instituted.

2. The Statute and the description of the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine are approved.

3. The Medal For Military Service to Ukraine is awarded to servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and military units established according to the law of Ukraine, and other persons for bravery, courage, and self-sacrifice demonstrated while defending the national interests of Ukraine and the exemplary fulfilment of military duties.

4. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is to provide financial and logistical support for manufacturing the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine and award certificates.

STATUT

of the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine, Award of the President of Ukraine

1. The Medal For Military Service to Ukraine, award of the President of Ukraine (hereafter the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine), has been instituted for awarding servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Border Guards of Ukraine, troops of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Ukraine, the Department of the Governmental Security of Ukraine, the Civil Defence of Ukraine and other persons.

2. The Medal For Military Service to Ukraine is granted for:
personal courage and bravery, self-sacrifice demonstrated while defending the national interests of Ukraine;
achievement of high combat readiness of troops and assurance of defencibility of Ukraine; exemplary fulfilment of military duties;
fulfilling special missions in order to ensure national security of Ukraine;
distinguished services in guarding the national border of Ukraine;
25 years of irreproachable military service.

3. The Medal For Military Service to Ukraine is granted by the Decree of the President of Ukraine.

4. Foreigners and persons without citizenship are eligible for the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine.

5. The Medal For Military Service to Ukraine can be granted posthumously.

6. Recommendations for granting the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine to servicemen or their equivalents are submitted by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, Headquarters of the National Guard of Ukraine, the Border Guards of Ukraine, leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Department of the Governmental Security of Ukraine, the Ministry of Home Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry For Extraordinary Situations and Protection of the Population from Aftermath ofChornobyl Catastrophe, Heads of regional administrations, Kyiv and Sevastopol city administrations.
Recommendations for awarding the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine can be given by the Commission for National Awards of Ukraine under the President of Ukraine.

7. As a rule, candidates are suggested by the military unit where the person to be awarded serves.
A standard recipient's form is enclosed with the recommendation.

8. The Medal For Military Service to Ukraine is awarded by the President of Ukraine or the President can entrust respective Ministers, Heads of other executive bodies, commander of respective military formation or unit, the Head of the Commission for National Awards under the President of Ukraine with its award.

9. The recipient of the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine receives the medal and the award certificate.

10. The Medal For Military Service to Ukraine is worn upon the left breast and after awards of the President of Ukraine such as the Orders of Prince Yaroslav The Wise, For Merit, of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, For Bravery if the recipient has them.

11. A holder of the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine can be deprived of the decoration by the President of Ukraine if the holder is condemned for a serious crime, after the recommendation of the court and in the manner envisaged by the law.

12. As a rule, duplicates are not provided in the event of loss (damage) of the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine and its award certificate. They may be provided as an exception, if the holder was unable to prevent the loss (damage) of the medal and the award certificate.

13. Duplicates of the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine and the award certificate are provided by the Commission for National Awards of Ukraine under the President of Ukraine at its own discretion at the expense of the holder or free of charge.

14. In the event of granting the Medal For Military Service to Ukraine posthumously, the medal and the award certificate are handed over to the family of the recipient. The medal and the certificate remain in the National Award Department of the Administration of the President of Ukraine if the recipient had no family.

15. The Medal For Military Service to Ukraine and its certificate belonging to a person deprived of the medal are to be returned to the National Award Department of the Administration of the President of Ukraine.
